All bloodborne enemies12/2/2023 Killing the player because you can is juvenile, when done in such a ham-fisted and arbitrary fashion. Not gonna detail it, but basically doing the obvious thing gets you killed, and then when you do the thing to get past the obvious thing it's all 'Surprise! Also killed!', and it isn't until the game has killed you twice that you then get to get past that area. It's like a video game version of a baby, insane with needs it can't communicate meaningfully and you're just frustrated and covered in puke.Īnyway, here I am going through the fishing village, doing just fine, and I fall victim to a double trap. Like, no, that shouldn't work.īut, Bloodborne, right? It rewards patience, strategy and careful planning with a kick in the proverbial dick, unless it wants that at that particular moment. In Bloodborne that was hardly ever the case - many boss fights were won because I got so mad I just started fucking around randomly hitting dodge or attack with my eyes closed and then suddenly the boss was dead. In Dark Souls the challenge is learning how the enemy works, finding their openings, and then exploiting them ruthlessly. Enemies with no predictable attack patterns for one. I should pause here to clarify - I found a lot of stuff in this game total bullshit. She was pretty tough, and I'm pretty sure her ability to stab you from across the level is complete bullshit, but I did finally beat her. Anyhow, I get through there, I kick the holy bananas out of some space dudes, and then Maria. The Church Lab place was a bit of a fucker, but that's only because the goons there were keen to swarm and the game won't let you attack through being hit (unlike enemies, who are mostly free to attack you as much as they want regardless of how many times you stab them in the face). The threaded cane is nice, but fuck if I don't want to use a giant hammer that bursts into flames. Plus I'd read there were nice weapons in there, and I kind of wanted to see if there were any better, well, different Skill based weapons to grab.Īn aside, I completely regret not being a strength build, because by god do they ever get some awesome weapons. Okay, my own fault, I knew it was post-game content (or, I think it is for the purposes of this discussion), but I go in anyway because HUGE LEVELS. Then I found the entrance to the DLC area. I did Cainhurst Castle, found an area in the Forbidden Forest I hadn't done before, whatever. ![]() Nothing too over the top, what with my aforementioned huge levels. I'm still on my first playthrough and I'm level 110, with a +9 threaded cane, +8 blades of mercy, and +8 dual pistol thingy.īy all rights I should be large and in fucking charge, especially considering I'd only just beat Rom.Īnyway, I decide to take a tour around, revisit some areas, so on and so forth. Taking my time, reading guides when I had to (because if the game isn't going to play fair, neither am I - fuck you cathedral goon who ganked Eileen or whatever her name was, you're a cheating infinite bullet asshole and you're damn right I'm going to look up how to cheese you), and farming the shit out of levels. The endless gotchas, set-ups, enemies so big the camera loses it's shit, enemies so small you attack over them, instructions to tell you to be aggressive when being aggressive is a good way to get dead, except when it's not.I could go on.ĭespite all that I was slogging through. Dark Souls magic comes from the fact that it's hard but fair.īloodborne, after weeks of playing it, is anything but fair. Despite being from From Software, this isn't Dark Souls. I was ready for Dark Souls Hard.īut this game.this game isn't Dark Souls. I'm a Dark Souls vet, and I've got the 100% achievement score on Dark Soul 2:SotFS to show for it. ![]() It's not that it's hard, I accepted that before walking in the door. Sometimes it was good fun, but most of the time it was BullShit(TM). ![]() I've been playing Bloodborne for a few weeks now, and I've had a very love/hate relationship with it. Bear with me, because I'm still riding an epic wave of rage here.
